# AI-assisted legal research

Legal. San José, Costa Rica. Client described anonymously under NDA.

A forensic research tool that interprets and searches a large body of legal protocols.

## Challenge

The engagement required a forensic research tool capable of interpreting and searching a large body of legal protocols.

## Role

Full architecture and implementation ownership.

## Architecture

- Parallel AI agents (Claude and OpenAI)
- Tesseract OCR
- Next.js
- Retrieval-augmented generation (RAG)

## Scale

- 5 internal users
- 13,000+ scanned TIFF files

## Outcomes

- Complex forensic reporting reduced from about two weeks to minutes, with human verification
- Minimum viable product in two weeks, production in six
- Supported legal work connected to a claim exceeding USD 1 million

## Lesson

In high-stakes research, observability and human validation are not overhead. They are what make an AI system responsible enough to rely on.
